Entrepreneurship Lifts Many Out of Poverty
Entrepreneurship lifts entire families and neighborhoods by putting opportunities in their hands.
Entrepreneurs transform neighborhoods and lives by turning ideas into lasting impact.
At Emerge and Rise™, we build better businesses with purpose. We support founders who are working harder than anyone to succeed, and who know that success must lift more than just themselves. We combine business development with social innovation and environmental sustainability to grow a future that works for all.
Why We Work, And Why It Must Be Green
Entrepreneurship gives people control over their future. When more people launch businesses, poverty drops. For example, a one‑percentage‑point rise in entrepreneurship correlates with about a two‑point drop in poverty. That data backs our belief: job creators hold the power to build community wealth.
Right to Start, a national nonprofit, pushes to remove barriers to launching businesses. It’s “America the Entrepreneurial” campaign encourages easier access to capital and policy reform to help anyone start a business
Right to Start reminds us that when anyone, regardless of race, income, or background, can start a business, prosperity follows: higher incomes, stronger communities, and less inequality.
At Emerge and Rise, we layer in environmental care with social innovation. We help entrepreneurs adopt sustainable operations that reduce impact on our city and climate. That’s not extra. It’s essential to ensure businesses endure and benefit San Antonio’s future .
The Trap: When Businesses Depend on One Person
Too many small businesses are trapped by their founders. The company can’t survive without them. We call this the “Owner‑Reliance Trap.” It fuels burnout. It risks collapse. And it ends opportunity where it should begin .
We break that cycle through our Owner Independence Framework™:
Empower: Boost mental resilience, confidence, and well‑being.
Equip: Build systems, delegation, access to capital, and infrastructure.
Educate: Teach financial and digital skills, planning, and resilience.
Elevate: Amplify stories, leadership, and exit readiness.
This design helps businesses survive beyond the founder. It creates space for succession, growth, and well‑being for the owner and their community.
A Call for a Texas Coalition—Our Next Step
National groups like Right to Start show what’s possible. Their vision is clear: when everyone can start, all of us gain . But to make this real across Texas, from San Antonio to Austin, Laredo to Lubbock, we must unite.
Something like the newly launched Texas Scale-Up Coalition offers a blueprint. It brings startups, investors, and leaders together to scale impact statewide . We need a sister initiative focused on inclusive, green, anti-poverty entrepreneurship. A coalition led by nonprofits, community developers, and business insiders that values sustainability, equity, and resilience.
This coalition can amplify what we do locally. Business owners gain easier access to capital. Donors see their impact stretch farther. Policymakers realize jobs, environmental health, and equity don’t have to compete; they can grow together.
Paul O’Brien from Startup Economist, a newsletter on LinkedIn, writes about how our systems often ignore the people who build the economy: workers, founders, educators, and families. In Texas, “the people who actually build and sustain the economy … are often the last ones consulted” in how it’s governed.
Why Leaders and Donors Should Care
We help dreamers become business owners, and business owners become community pillars. We prepare them with knowledge, systems, and self-reliance, not dependency. We help them grow in ways that are financially strong, environmentally thoughtful, and don’t burn them out.
By supporting us, leaders and donors empower more of that. They invest in businesses that stand for more than profit. They back sustainable jobs that endure. They help build a Texas where opportunity and resilience can rise in every neighborhood, especially the ones that need it most.
