Park(ing) Day Celebration: Micro Acts of Civil Joy
Park(ing) Day is a global, participatory event that transforms ordinary curbside parking spaces into imaginative public parks and social hubs—highlighting the potential of our streets to be safer, greener, and more people-centered. What began in San Francisco in 2005 has since grown into an international movement embraced by more than 160 cities across 35 countries. Centro San Antonio is proud to bring Park(ing) Day to life locally through a dynamic collaboration with the 80|20 Foundation and Texas ASLA – South Texas Section. Join in animating the Houston Street corridor in the emerging Downtown West district with pop-up parks, playful installations, and greenery.
On Friday, September 19, Emerge and Rise will participate in PARK(ing) Day 2025 by transforming a single downtown parking space on Houston Street into a joyful micro-hub for rest, reflection, and climate-conscious connection.
This pop-up installation invites the public to slow down, hydrate, and answer a simple question: What brings you joy? With thoughtful seating, free water, and interactive prompts, we’re reclaiming urban space for people—not just cars.
Join us as we reimagine what our streets can be.
About 80|20 Foundation
The 80|20 Foundation believes that talent is the key to building a great city. We aim to share stories of the entrepreneurs who succeeded from the city’s ecosystem, companies that relocated here to fuel growth with local talent, and young professionals whose careers started and progressed here. We strive to help people discover a love of San Antonio by sharing the stories that exemplify how anyone can contribute to the history of San Antonio’s tech scene.
